The Cal Fremling Photographs collection includes several hundred photographs and negatives which were used for educational and professional purposes. The subjects of the photographs and negatives aerial photographs include aerial images of the Upper Mississippi River, Lake Winona, Winona and neighboring townships in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and various flora and fauna specimens.

Three boats (steamers St. Paul, Silver Crescent and J.S. [John Streckfus]) docked at Davenport, Iowa. The Silver Crescent was a log rafting boat, while the larger boats ran mostly excursions. - Steamboat "Burlington." Built in Pittsburgh in 1837. Shipped furs, and such notable passengers as John C. Fremont and artist George Catlin. Photo courtesy of Dave Garrison. - Steamboat "Saint Paul." An expensive excursion boat built in St. Louis in 1883. It weighed well over 200 tons and was 300 feet long. Paddlewheel had 26' diameter. - Steamboat "North Star." A Mississippi River log raft boat, built in the mid 1850s. Photo was taken in Davenport, Iowa. - Steamboat "J.S." A popular excursion boat of the early 1900s, named for John Streckfus, of the Streckfus Line that operated on the Upper Mississippi.
