Abstract
Understating the historical context and future prospects of Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) is a critical component to successful change management in higher education. For SEM to meet institutional goals underpinning the mission and vision of the institution, the scope of practice must be broadened. Redefining strategic enrollment management is necessary to focus on the development of collaborations that will serve as the foundation for leveraging the looming changes in industry and technology to achieve enrollment targets. This paper examines a specific case [E1] of implementing a new enrollment initiative, using a document analysis methodology to uncover emerging themes. These themes necessitate consideration of a revised definition of SEM to meet the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education in the United States (U.S.), which is confronting an impending enrollment decline[E2] .
