Description

Fremling's field notebook for 1966-1967 includes original notes, drawings, and tables with later annotations. Notes are dated June 17, 1966-Dec 16, 1967. Notes from July 31, 1967 are loose and inserted in correct date/page number order. Pages are numbered 1-103. Written and drawn mostly in pencil and ink. Notes are mostly in Fremling's handwriting with several written in Jerry Nagahashi's hand, and in another unknown hand (possibly Arlayne Fremling or Angie Boettcher). Subjects cover the study of emergence periods and life cycle of mayflies (including Hexagenia rigida, H. bilineata, H. limbata, E. album). Notes also include descriptions of: college classes, mayfly egg/hatching experiments and tanks in "the dugout," species counts, pesticides including DDT, DDVP, Malathion and Dyna-Fog, weather and temperatures, and winter testing. A large mayfly emergence on July 16, 1966 at the Latsch Island Wagon Bridge is documented by Fremling, accompanied by pictures in the Mayfly Extras slide boxes: 2011.003.0033.
