Description
Photograph of Eddie Spencer, in uniform and using a catcher's mitt. He is playing catch with someone outside of the frame. A grandstand with a few people is in the background. Another young man with a baseball bat leans against a light pole. Eddie normally played third base or outfield. His brother, Ralph, Class of 1940, was a catcher.
Eddie's college career was chronicled in The Winonan (5 June 1941, p. 4) :
"Eddie Spencer, of Columbia Heights, now of Winona, has earned twelve letters in his career at Winona. Four each in football, basketball, and baseball. He was given All-Conference honors at halfback in football all four years of play, two of which he was placed on the first team. This last season he was given honorable mention on the All-Conference basketball team. He was chosen as co-captain of the basketball team for his senior year in college. . . .
Last spring we hated to see Ralph Spencer leave the school. A fine athlete, scholar, and all-around guy, Ralph was respected by all who knew him. This spring we must hid good bye to Eddie Spencer, the other half of the greatest brother combination ever to exist in the Northern Teachers College athletic circles. We'll never forget his pleasing smile and keen wit."
