Synthesis and Characterization of a Range of Imines Carrying a Sulfonamide Functional Group

Presenter(s)

Abstract

n this study, seven different imines were synthesized and characterized using mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, and melting point determination. All imines were made by combining sulfamethoxazole, a classic antibacterial agent, with various substituted benzaldehydes. The characterization techniques provided detailed insights into the structural properties of the synthesized imines, confirming their successful formation and purity. Synthesis of these compounds was performed in support of several related projects as part of a CURE-based laboratory experience in CHEM 213.
