Richard V. Kowles: Hall of Fame Inductee
Kowles was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 1954. After graduation from WSU, he completed two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. and became a high school teacher. He taught in college since 1970. At the time of his induction to the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame, he was chairman of the biology department at St. Mary’s College in Winona. He was named Teacher of the Year by the Spring Valley, (Minnesota) Education Association in 1966, Teacher of the Year at St. Mary’s College in 1979, Minnesota, Science Teacher of the Year in 1984, and Professor with Distinction at St. Mary’s College in 1986.
