Description

Scientific name used in the specimen book: Cypripedium pubescens. Common name used in specimen book: Lady slipper. Native to southeastern Minnesota and other parts of North America. Taxonomy - Order: Orchidales; Family: Orchidaceae; Genus: Cypripedium L.; Species: Cypripedium parviflorum. Collected from "shady woods and sandy rocky soil" in Witoka, Winona County, Minnesota, on May 4, 1912.

This botanical specimen was collected and included in Alice Ford's final project for a Botany I course in 1912 taught by John M. Holzinger at the Winona Normal School in Winona, Minnesota. It was included in a collection of thirty specimens which can be viewed in the Botanical Specimen Book collection in OpenRiver.
