Description
Common name used in specimen book: Wild geranium. Native to southeastern Minnesota and other parts of North America. Taxonomy - Order: Geraniales; Family: Geraniaceae; Genus: Geranium L.; Species: Geranium maculatum L. Collected from "swampy places" in Witoka, Winona County, Minnesota, on May 20, 1899.
This botanical specimen was collected and included in Helen J. Monahan's final project for a Botany course in 1899 taught by John M. Holzinger at the Winona Normal School in Winona, Minnesota. It was included in a collection of sixty-seven specimens which can be viewed in the Botanical Specimen Book collection in OpenRiver.
