Native to Minnesota and other parts of North America; according to the USDA, as of 2021, this species is no longer present in southeastern Minnesota. Taxonomy - Order: Liliales; Family: Liliaceae; Genus: Maianthemum F.H. Wigg.; Species: Maianthemum trifolium (L.) Sloboda. Collected from "rich woods", Winona, Winona County, Minnesota, on May 20, 1899.
This botanical specimen was collected by Helen J. Monahan in 1899 for a Botany course taught by John M. Holzinger at the Winona Normal School in Winona, Minnesota. It was included in a collection of sixty-seven specimens which can be viewed in the Botanical Specimen Book collection in OpenRiver.
